Originally from Mattituck, NY, Richard and Barbara Sterling moved to DE in 1972 and started The Sterling Nursery in 1979. A family owned & operated business, the nursery is currently run by Dick, Barbara, their son, Steve and his wife, Renee, on 73 acres in Smyrna, DE.
Dick has been an active member of Delaware Nursery and Landscape Association since 1977. He served on the board for several years and was president in 1981. In 2005, Dick was inducted into the DNLA Hall of Fame.
Dick was a representative to the Farm Council in the 80’s and has been a member of IPPS since 1971. Appointed by the governor, he has served on the DE Nutrient Management Commission since 2000.
Steve was DNLA President in 2000-2001 and has served on the FFA Advisory Board and Farm Council.
